Grand Canyon Whitewater Rafting Trips Down the Colorado River

Check out this great video that was shot during one of our Grand Canyon whitewater rafting trips in 2013 by Tony Fannin, and put together by GOPRO from 30 hours of footage.

Experience The Grand Canyon Like Never Before

Rafting down the Grand Canyon.

Rafting down the Grand Canyon.

When it comes to world-class whitewater rafting expeditions, the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River is at the top. For 278 miles, the river flows through the most spectacular canyon on earth. Along the journey, the river encounters famous stretches of whitewater, beautiful side canyons, and incredible views around every turn. Many adventurers consider their Grand Canyon rafting tour the adventure of a lifetime.
Colorado River & Trail Expeditions has been under original ownership since 1971. We are a small company with about 15 guides who are all incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. We believe in combining off-river hiking and exploration with all of our river trips. Our premier canyon adventure trips cover the entire canyon, starting at Lee’s Ferry and ending near the Grand Wash Cliffs at Pearce Ferry. We also offer partial Grand Canyon trips where participants hike in or out at Phantom Ranch, or helicopter in or out at Whitmore Wash. Our Grand Canyon trips range from 3-13 days in length.

All-Inclusive Whitewater Rafting

Some of the great things about choosing Colorado River & Trail Expeditions include our great gear, food, and rafts. We provide all of your camping equipment, including clean sleeping bags, cots, foam pads, tents, and ground tarps. Our delicious and healthy meals include plenty of fresh vegetables, hormone-free pork and beef, natural free-range chicken, and wild fish. In addition, we serve delicious desserts and lots of snacks. Our river fleet consists of our 37-foot motorized rafts, 18-foot oar rafts, 16-foot people-powered paddle rafts, and a couple of fiberglass dories.

The River Adventure of a Lifetime

Exploring the Grand Canyon.

Exploring the Grand Canyon.

A Grand Canyon whitewater rafting adventure is something that must be experienced to truly appreciate it’s majesty. Many of our guests, over the years claim their rafting trip down through the Grand Canyon changed their lives. Others who have traveled the world insist their trip was the best thing they have ever done. We have had many guests who have taken more than 10 trips down the river with us, and we have had clients say that their Grand Canyon rafting trip was the only vacation they have ever taken that they would do more than once. Every trip is unique and special.
Because we are a small company, we can customize your Grand Canyon river rafting adventure. We can work out all the details, from special diet requests to trip lengths and types. We love to work with groups as well as individuals. In addition to our scheduled trips, we are also authorized by the National Park Service to offer Kayak Support trips.

Raft aboard our 37′ Rafts

On these Grand Canyon river rafting trips guests travel in style aboard our 37′ rafts that are guided using quiet four stroke outboard engines. These trips are our most popular expeditions and are a great option for a Grand Canyon rafting vacation. The advantage these trips offer is a smaller time commitment and less expensive Grand Canyon experience, without missing any of the side canyons, hikes, and special places in the Grand Canyon. Our Motorized rafts offer a slightly tamer ride through Grand Canyon’s rapids while still giving guests plenty of excitement. These trips are a great option for families and groups because 10-12 guests can ride on the same raft. Our 37′ rafts are specially designed so everyone can take in a 360 degree view unlike some of our competitors whose boats are designed for guests to sit on one side of a gear pile on the raft. All of our motor trips are all-inclusive and include deluxe camping gear(cots, chairs, USA made sleeping bags, foam pads, ground tarps, and tents if desired or necessary).

Entire Grand Canyon Rafting Trips (Lee’s Ferry to Lake Mead – 280 miles)

Grand Canyon 8-Day River Trip

This is our classic Grand Canyon rafting expedition. It offers ample time to see the sites and side canyons and has no exchange of passengers at Phantom Ranch or Whitmore Wash.

Grand Canyon 9-Day River Trip

On this trip our guests receive an extra day on the river to hike and explore. These trips usually have some guests leaving or joining the trip at Phantom Ranch on the fourth day.

Grand Canyon Natural History Trip

A Geologist and Naturalist join our crew on this trip to provide more interpretation about the Grand Canyon and its flora and fauna. This trip usually takes place at the end of May and generally fills up over a year in advance.

Grand Canyon Spring Hiking and Rafting

Most of our guides would say this is the best rafting trip in the world. This trip is for those who want to participate in a lot of off-river hiking and exploring. On this trip we go to places we can’t go to during the summer heat.

Partial Grand Canyon Rafting Trips aboard our 37′ Rafts

Upper Grand Canyon

Our Upper Grand Canyon whitewater rafting trips cover the first 87 miles of Grand Canyon National Park and require a strenuous guided 9 mile hike out of the Grand Canyon. Some of the highlights of this section include the Little Colorado River, The Nankoweep Granaries(the scene on the new US quarter), Redwall Cavern, Vasey’s Paradise, and many fun and exciting rapids.

Lower Grand Canyon

Our Lower Grand Canyon motor trips cover the lower 190 miles of Grand Canyon National Park. Guests must hike 9 miles into the Grand Canyon with a hiking guide where they will meet our rafts at Phantom Ranch or Pipe Creek. The rafting trip ends at Pierce Ferry on Lake Mead. Highlights of this trip include Lava Falls Rapid(the biggest in Grand Canyon), Havasu Creek, Deer Creek, and Elves Chasm.

Grand Canyon Multi-Sport Ranch and Raft Adventure Vacation

We offer this Grand Canyon rafting trip only a few times each summer. This trip is for those who are short on time, but want to raft the Grand Canyon. This trip covers the lower 90 miles of Grand Canyon National Park. Guests will experience some great rapids, see the Lower Granite Gorge, and be able to check out the Grand Canyon Skywalk from the river. This trip is generally combined with a night at the Bar 10 Ranch on the North Rim. Here is a video a couple of our guests made showing all of the excitement from one of our Ranch & Raft Expeditions.

Non-Motorized Rafting Expeditions

If you want experience the Grand Canyon in a completely natural way you may decide a non-motorized rafting expedition is the right choice for you. Our non-motorized rafting expeditions are done via 18′ row rafts where a guide does all the work, and 14′ or 16′ people powered paddle rafts, we never use motorized rafts on these trips. Not only do guests experience the Grand Canyon on nature’s terms, but they also challenge the whitewater rapids of the Colorado River in all their power and glory.

Complete Grand Canyon Rowing with Paddle Option (Lee’s Ferry to Whitmore Wash)

11-Day Grand Canyon Rowing with Paddle Boat and/or Inflatable Kayaks

These trips generally consist of 4-5 row rafts and 1-2 paddle rafts. Sometimes this type of trip is referred to as a hybrid trip. If you are looking for a trip where you can help paddle the paddle raft through rapids some days and relax on the row raft other days, this trip is a great option. This trip explores the heart of Grand Canyon and allows for plenty of off-river activities. The trip ends at Whitmore Wash with a helicopter ride out of the Grand Canyon. We will be glad to provide inflatable kayaks to those who make a special request.
