I just stumbled upon your blog looking for photos of rivers for a newsletter, and I must say, a Grand Canyon rafting excursion might have just made it to my bucket list. I’ve rafted the Ocoee River in TN in 2009 and the Animas in CO this summer. How does the Grand Canyon compare?

The Colorado River through the Grand Canyon is unbelievable. The rapids are just one part of the incredible experience. The river is a high volume river with gigantic waves and holes, but it is much more forgiving than many other whitewater rivers because in general there is good recovery below each rapid. On the Class 1-6 scale most of the rapids would be class 3 or 4 with a couple arguable class 5 rapids.
