About the author:
George Wuerthner is a full-time freelance photographer, writer, and ecologist. He has written nineteen other titles including Yellowstone: A Visitor’s Companion, Yosemite: A Visitor’s Companion, Alaska Mountain Ranges, Forever Wild: The Adirondacks, Big Bed Country, Southern Appalachian Country, Montana: Magnificent Wilderness, Idaho Mountain Ranges, Nevada Mountain Ranges, Oregon Mountain Ranges, and The Main Coast. In addition, his photos have appeared in hundreds of calendars, books, magazines, and other publications. He has also exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution and other Museums.

Wuerthner graduated from the University of Montana with degrees in wildlife biology and botany and received a master’s degree in science communication from the University of California, Santa Cruz. A former wilderness ranger, national park ranger, botanist, science teacher, university instructor, and guide, Wuerthner now lives in Livingston, Montana, north of Yellowstone National Park.
